For some time now Marvel films have been these sort of flavorless movies. Now when you get a director like Sam Raimi, he's gonna bring his spices to add some seasoning to the dish. And I'm glad they let him. Love the horror elements and occasional standout moments of camera work. M.o.M is a fun Marvel blockbuster.
As always Cumberbatch is sweet as Strange but the real standout this time is Elizabeth Olsen. The Scarlet Witch has never been better! And compelling too. Newcomer America Chavez was nice but I felt she was just a sentient plot device. Point is: Great cast, well acted. And no you don't need to watch Wandavision. They catch you up just fine. This comes from my sister who didn't watch it or the first film either. And she really enjoyed this.
The multiverse was a good world building piece. Loved the variants and cameos and what they do with these cameos especially. Plus the action. It was more brutal and bloodier (kinda) than expected. Some people go out hard too I was shocked really. Exciting, fun, super trippy visuals. My favorite visual came from a seed that was literally planted in act 1 that returned in an incredible way. Genuinely made me smile.
I really liked M.o.M. It's probably the most fun I've had with Marvel since Infinity War. Sure the script has issues but even then you still have a campy, bizarre, and worthy sequel to an already visually crazy predecessor. And who better to helm it than Marvel alumni Sam Raimi? Flavorful. M.o.M was Flavorful.
