“The suspense is terrible... I hope it'll last.”
Gene Wilder was a brilliant actor. He was really a treasure. I'll always love his entrance where he tumbles and jumps back up. After watching Snowpiercer, I had to rewatch this. Anyways, the last & first time I watched this was when I was little— so, it was definitely due for a rewatch. Now that I’m older, this was much much much more darker than I remember. Not going to lie, what makes this movie so great is just how whimsically terrifying Wilder is as Willy Wonka. I SWEAR I DON’T REMEMBER THAT BOAT SCENE AT ALL & I WAS SO CONFUSED LMAO. The parents were lowkey right to be worried about him & they were also idiots for blindly trusting someone that nobody’s ever met before (except the Oompa Loompas of course). However, the levels of layered jokes playing back and forth was like watching a comedy version of tennis. The cinematography, the style, & the pace of the story telling is just magically fantastic.
