A story told a hundred times in a hundred different ways. At this point, it's impossible to say how I would feel about the actual events that transpire in this film, since through cultural osmosis, I already know what happens to each character as soon as I hear their names.
But somehow, instead of getting crushed under the weight of that, Hammer Productions finds a way to make the spectacle even more grand - haunting gothic set designs, booming overtures from a classic orchestra, and the dignified charisma of Christopher Guest and his contemporaries.
The 90 minutes of screentime could barely contain this - definitely one of the classics for a reason.
