It's such a rarity to find a film where you can say "I've never seen anything like this before" and actually mean it. In the case of Moonlight, I can say that I truly have never experienced anything like this. It's unlike any love story I've ever seen or coming of age film I've ever seen. A film where the silence in the room speaks a thousand words and each shot tells its own story; an exploration of toxic masculinity and the questioning of your identity when everyone around you is telling you what you should be. It swells you up and quietly breaks you in all the best ways. A downright masterpiece.
