Part of why I love Endgame so much is the first hour where the characters just hang around and talk about their traumas and the reasons they’re sad. It also has the biggest spectacle in the history of cinema in the second half, but I always struggle internally when it comes to deciding which parts of that movie I like most.
Guardians Vol. 2 is somehow that movie where the characters hang around and talk about their traumas and sadness, as well as a giant spectacle with colors that pop and action that kicks ass. It just happens to do all of these things at the same time, and it works so wonderfully well. I just love these characters so much - whether they are talking about their baggage or fighting alongside each other. Gunn writes them so well and earnestly.
