Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace ★★★

The best piece of movie magic was casting Natalie Portman & Kiera Knightly. My mind has just not been able to wrap around the outstanding effect and trick of the eye it produced

The last time I watched this was maybe 6 years ago, I was playing a three way Magic The Gathering game with some friends and it was insufferable. This time I found enjoyment, and was able to suspect or reconnect to how my younger self would’ve probably perceived or reacted. I remember seeing this in the living room, episodes 2&3 I saw in theaters. Just a flabby pacing- the podracing race was totally not podracing. Boring, the arcade game did it better. I actually liked how Naboo looked. Might fuck around and watch Dinosaur.

Could’ve been great, if things were allowed to breathe more. Astonishing and noir like backgrounds, epic at points. Comedic wipes, I bet each movie feels like where Anakin is at the time age wise- this did have those moments. I wonder how I feel about the rest of the trilogy.
