Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ★★½

I was not that into it, so I ended up making brownies while my friends’ eyes were glued to the tv. the brownies turned out great! nothing like using a full movie to prep and bake them because I didn’t really want to be involved with what was happening on the screen haha. I’m kinda tempted to include the recipe just in case anyone needs something to fill their time if they are in a similar situation.

I used the Ghirardelli triple chocolate brownie mix but you can use any brownie mix or make homemade brownies (bonus points for those because that’s like more effort than I’m willing to do), but I’ll be walking you through the boxed mix.

you will need (yields 16):
•1 pouch mix
•1/3 cup water
•1/3 cup vegetable oil
•1 egg

I recommend not preheating the oven until you are about finished prepping the brownie batter. it’ll add some ample time of longingly staring at the oven waiting for it to preheat instead of looking at whatever movie your friends decided to watch without including you in the decision and forgetting that you watch way too many films so you must have plenty of good recommendations to provide.

preheat the oven to 325 degrees when convenient and don’t forget to spray your brownie pan even if it says nonstick! unless you want to use some extra time breaking a sweat trying to remove the brownies. props to you for that agility and determination.

back to the actually making of the brownies. mix the water, oil, and egg into a medium sized mixing bowl. don’t over-mix, however feel free to carefully and meticulously mix the ingredients, one at a time, while keeping your gaze focused on the batter you are creating. I spent at least 30-45 minutes doing so while Shang-Chi was playing, but of course mixing times vary depending on the movie and how badly you don’t want to watch it. make sure to occasionally pretend like you are present by saying a couple of “wow!” and “I didn’t see that coming!”- those phrases work perfectly for Marvel movies.

after mixing and spraying the pan, spread the batter into the pan and tap the pan a little on a flat surface to level the batter. you can fancy up your brownies by melting 1 cup of peanut butter and then mixing into the batter. you’ll thank me later- it adds another level to the boxed brownies.

bake for 45-50 minutes depending on your oven. I bake for over 50 minutes because college apartment ovens are the rejects of ovens. just don’t over-bake even if it’s really tempting because you still want something good to come out of the time with your friends!

let me know if you use my tips :)
