Spider-Man 2

Spider-Man 2 ★★★★½

and years later tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who told them to hold on a second longer...

Nearly fourteen years on and this is still, in my opinion, the best superhero film ever created.

A film more about responsibility, identity, and self-discernment than about kicking and punching bad guys.

A film that, true to the spirit of the character, strips away the veneer of flashy escapism and pummels its central character into the dirt over and over. Everything is centered on Peter and how he navigates his responsibilities, his identities, and his relationships.

A film that, unlike basically all other cinematic incarnations of the character (even Tom Holland's wonderful current interpretation), manages to strike the *perfect* balance between the bubbly joy of Spider-man and the crushing reality of Peter Parker.

More than anything else, the fact that when Peter drops his books and gets slammed in the head by like four backpacks as others pay him no notice, I see days I've had in my life, makes Spider-man 2 my favorite super-hero movie by a mile and, still, the most human super-hero movie ever created.
