Aaron White’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Some people love Marilyn, and some hate her. What's that got to do with me?"
Masterful, mesmerizing, heavy, and deeply challenging filmmaking by Andrew Dominik with a bravura performance from Ana de Armas as the famous icon. Unlike any biopic I've ever seen; part fantasy and part biography, this intimate and at times poetic portrait of a fatherless, abused, and broken woman isn't at all about celebration of its subject matter's achievements but rather a flat-out tragedy that should make you examine how you (and the world) view the idea of a Hollywood sex symbol and celebrity in general.
So many trigger warnings apply - from child abuse (physical and emotional) to sexual assault to gaslighting to abortion to substance abuse and more, so be prepared, but if you can handle it - see this film.
