Scavenger Hunt #96 - Prompt #12: Watch a movie nominated for an Oscar this year
I can certainly see why this was an Oscar nominee, I thought it was great. Not one of my all-time favorites, but I did enjoy it completely and thought it was cool and fascinating. Everything just looked so beautiful as well.
There are some great laughs and I even enjoyed the themes throughout. Just going off gender-based power dynamics and the idea of economic systems was great. I thought it added an interesting dynamic to the whole film. While I haven’t heard about much of the cast, I did think they all did a wonderful job too. I do think Dolly de Leon as Abigail should’ve been used more than just the third act, though. It’s also heartbreaking that Charlbi Dean died only weeks before this got a wide release. I usually don’t like an open ending either, but I thought it worked incredibly well here and just leaves everyone thinking.
Overall, a very solid film that I enjoyed watching. Not a bad choice to close the month with either.
