I'm not sure i can even put into words how much I loved this film.
i stupidly avoided this as a ~teen~ because I thought it was too girly and kiddie. Then as an adult I was never as interested in it because it seemed much more for children and didn't have the hook of weird creatures that Spirited Away had for me.
Well, definitely now I know to never listen to that part of my brain EVER AGAIn because this was...wow.
Just utterly wonderful and lovely. Made up almost entirely of women main characters (except for a cat, a nearly mute baker and the love interest/young friend), filled with people helping each other and taking care of each other, no villains to speak of and, until the final life and death disaster scene, filled with the low stakes but very important drama of everyday life and growing up. I cried a bunch.
Once she flew and turned on that pop song on her radio as the opening credits went on I knew I was in for something supremely special.
This has been a damn great couple of days for movies for me.
